Children and Youth Committee
Purpose:
To help our children gain an understanding of our Unitarian Universalist faith, our Jewish and Christian heritage, and other world religious; to give our children a way to develop and explore their own values and beliefs and make wise decisions; and to promote self-esteem, respect for others, and a positive attitude toward life.
Duties:
- Responsible for guiding the religious education of and ministry to the children and youth of the Church community, with an emphasis on understanding and implementing the seven Unitarian Universalist Principles.
- Recruit teachers and support the DRE in training and supporting teachers.
- Assist the DRE in communicating with parents about the RE program.
- Oversee special youth education activities, such as OWL and youth groups.
- Provide a nursery program.
- Develop and carry out plans to promote and publicize our children’s religious education program, creating visibility in the larger congregation.
- Encourage children and youth participation in social justice projects.
- Promote participation of children and youth in the life of the Church community.
