Notes:
Compiled by M.W. Gery (May, 1993) from a search of the graveyard for all stones that are still standing.

  • "not found" is used to indicate stones not found in the present search, but included in the 1959-60 list of inscriptions.
  • It appears that all or some of the individuals named on headstones 1, 2, 5, 10, 16, 17, 84, 96, 136, and 158 were not included on the 1959-60 list.
  • Many stones appear to have sunk below the surface over the years or were broken before the 1960 move. I had to lift or re-set quite a few. This should be done periodically for those stones that are sinking.
  • It was a common practice during this period to mark a grave site with both headstones and footstones. There are quite a few footstones in this graveyard. I have designated these with the appendage "(f)" after a stone number. When the stones were moved in 1960, the head- and footstones become separated. This may have caused the number of individuals buried in the yard to have been overstated at that time.
  • I have made the typical 'f' to 's' conversion in names and notes, but have not changed any misspellings that the carver may have made. In some cases, I have enclosed the more common spelling in brackets after the inscribed spelling.
  • Nicholson Broughton, Captain of the Hannah and Major in Glover's regiment is buried in the Pedrick Cemetery.
  • Other Hoopers can be found in the Harris Street (or Pedrick) Cemetery just beyond the back stone wall.
  • For relatives of Rev. Simon Bradstreet, see Harris, Robie, and Blackler.
  • I have translated "Relict" as widow and "consort or confort" as wife/husband.
