Immigration has been an area of concern for our members for many years. One of our Meetinghouse presentations,by Dr.Alexandra Pinieros-Shields and Dr.Avi Chomsky focused on the history of immigration to this country over time.
Informed by the Essex County Community Organization and UU Mass Action we engage in legislative advocacy for current undocumented immigrants at the MA statehouse.
Through ECCO, of which we are members, UUCM also works with volunteers from many other area churches to provide direct practical aide to immigrants and supports empowerment to achieve economic independence.
UUCM members have also provided resources to Casa Mariposa in Lynn which is home to 8 families from Central and South America. In removing traditional barriers to services and support, Casa Mariposa promotes equitable, safe, and affordable housing, resources for health, education, rent sponsorship, and community engagement. Members of UUCM work with the families and support this specialized affordable housing option welcoming our immigrant neighbors. “We envision a world in which immigrants and their families are welcomed, valued, and given opportunities to demonstrate themselves as productive and vibrant members of the community.”
